Resist the Urge to Blame God

When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
1 Chronicles 17:11–12 NIV

David wanted to build a temple to house the ark of the covenant. He felt guilty that he was living in a fine home built of cedar and that the ark had no home. His heart was in the right place. But God had other plans.

The prophet Nathan delivered God’s word to King David that his son Solomon was the one God would allow to build the temple. God wanted a man of peace to construct it. Although the message wasn’t exactly what David expected, it pleased him nonetheless. The warrior David accepted Nathan’s news and was beyond thankful to the Lord for establishing his family to be used in God’s service.

Even if you feel your plans are God-centered and for His glory, He may have His reasons for thwarting them. So if something isn’t going the way you had envisioned, resist the urge to blame God. Trust Him. He will use you as He sees fit. His choices and His timing are always perfect.

God, help me rely on Your wisdom rather than my own, for You see the big picture. Amen.
