He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains.
Psalm 107:14 NIV
Do you struggle with depression? It’s a state of being, a state of despondency that may be caused by chemical changes in your brain. This condition can shackle your heart and take captive your mind. It’s a place in which you feel like a prisoner.
The word depression comes from the Latin verb deprimere, meaning “to press down,” to subjugate, or to bring down in spirits. This pressing down can take you to some very dark places. But God never leaves His children in the dark. He is a God of light—and He wants you with Him, standing tall in the Sonshine.
When you are in the abyss, when all you can see is the darkness, God will provide you with a helper, for you were never meant to live life in your own power. God has created physicians, psychologists, counselors, and even friends and family members to help you. So reach out to someone standing outside of the pit, someone in the light, who can lift you up and out.
If you are not in such a dark place, take inventory of those around you. Reach out to one who may need help in loosing his or her own chains.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to rescue those who are in darkness. You are glorious, everlasting Light. Amen.
