Because God helped the Levites, strengthening them as they carried the Chest of the Covenant of God, they paused to worship by sacrificing seven bulls and seven rams.
1 Chronicles 15:26 MSG
The ark of the covenant was not too heavy for the men carrying it. So why does the Bible tell us that God helped them carry it? In what ways did they need strengthening?
These same men had witnessed Uzzah fall dead for merely touching the ark to steady it (see 1 Chronicles 13:9–10)! The remaining Levites probably trembled at the thought of transporting it. But God calmed their fears. He strengthened them emotionally and mentally for the task. Not only this, but He helped them.
Often, when you are going about the business of the church, you may forget God. Although you are capable of carrying out a lot of well-laid plans in your own human strength, let this verse serve as a reminder for you to seek and rely on God’s help.
You may not feel you need God to assist you. But without God, you wouldn’t take your next breath, much less carry out the missions you may have created in your own limited thinking. So before you stumble, reach out to the Lord. Ask Him to lead, guide, and strengthen you on the way.
Heavenly Father, help me in all I do today. You are my strength, my steady rock, my ultimate helper. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
