God-Centered

Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
2 Chronicles 1:1 NIV

David’s son Solomon got a firm grip on the kingdom of Israel not because he was self-centered but because He was God-centered. And because Solomon stuck so close to God, God stuck close to Solomon—“and made him exceedingly great.”

Later in 2 Chronicles, Solomon seeks out and worships the Lord’s presence at the Tent of Meeting. That night God appears to Solomon in a dream, saying, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you” (1 Kings 3:5 NIV). Solomon doesn’t ask for his enemies to be killed, wealth, fame, or a long life. Instead, he asks for wisdom with which to lead God’s people.

Because what Solomon asks for is coming from the bottom of his heart and is a selfless request, a very-pleased God grants his request for wisdom—and grants him great wealth as well!

Solomon was a person totally devoted to God, who stuck close to and sought God while He was near (see Isaiah 55:6–7), a great example for any human to follow!

What would you like to ask God for? If your request is heart-centered, God-serving, and selfless, God will surely grant it—and more besides!

God, help me search my heart, find the request I want to make of You that would further Your kingdom. May it please You.
