Choose to Be Content

Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?
Hebrews 13:5-6 MSG

We all want to understand. Understand why bad things happen. Understand why certain decisions get made. And we want to understand why grace was given to us when we didn’t deserve it. We all want to understand what God is up to in our life.

Proverbs 20:24 (NLT) asks, “The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?”

If we trust in God, that He is for us, loves us, and is in control of our life, then trying to analyze or understand everything won’t be something that consumes us. Instead, contentment can consume us. All of this sounds easier said than done, right? It happens through a process called sanctification. Sanctification occurs over time as the Holy Spirit works in our lives to mold us into the likeness of Jesus.

So when you have those moments where you become obsessed with trying to figure things out, stop, take a few deep breathes, and say out loud, “God, I trust You! I choose to be content!”

Abba Father, more than anything in this life I desire contentment in You. For that’s where I find peace and trust that I can’t explain or understand.
