Running a Race

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV

At this time of year, some people are gearing up to pound the pavement before they sit down to eat their Thanksgiving Day feast. If you or someone you know has ever participated in the highly acclaimed Turkey Trot, you know full well how important it is to train for the road race. For those who have run it cold-turkey, you might be in for a rude awakening come supper time.

The writer of Hebrews 12 uses the analogy of running a race to describe what it means to run the race of faith. Just as running a long-distance race requires a lot of endurance, so does trusting God and remaining patient.

Consider the race that you’re currently running. Invite God into the process so it can become a purpose-filled race.

Father, because of You I can have purpose in my commitments. Help me to not lean on myself but to trust in You to finish well.
