Living Water

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
John 4:15 NIV

The Samaritan woman who came to draw water from Jacob’s well didn’t know she would meet Someone who would change her life drastically. Her life had been filled with relationships that didn’t work. She may have felt worthless and used. That day may have started out like every other day in her life, but when she approached the well, Jesus was waiting. He asked her for a drink. When she questioned His reason, He in turn offered her water—living water. If she drank of it, she would never thirst again. She was all for never having to come to the well again to draw water, not realizing Jesus was offering her spiritual life, not a physical refreshment. But as they talked, she found living water that gave her a new lease on life.

Some days life can seem like one endless task after another; it exhibits a sameness that makes us weary. We thirst for something better, or maybe just different. Maybe it’s time for a trip to the well. As we come to Christ in prayer, seeking a much-needed drink, we will find Him waiting at the well, offering the same living water to each of us that He offered to the Samaritan woman. Are there any among us who don’t need times of spiritual refreshing in our lives? Grab a bucket and go to the well. Jesus is waiting.

Jesus, help me to drink from Your well of living water so I will never thirst again.
