Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things.
Psalm 72:18 NLT
G. K. Chesterton said, “The world will never starve for want of wonders; but only for want of wonder.” There are so many wonders in the world—places to see, goals to accomplish, exciting special effects—and yet many of us are still missing “awe.”
The church is struggling, too. Almost all of us—Christian and non-Christian alike—have grown up with a view of God as loving, accepting, and forgiving, but we have learned to take those attributes for granted. We’ve lost the wonder of His majesty.
In the early days of the apostles, many Jews repented and were baptized. They devoted themselves to teaching and fellowship, and “a deep sense of awe came over them all” (Acts 2:43 NLT). They were amazed by God!
We can regain our wonderment through reading God’s Word. The more we learn about Him and our own condition, the more we can appreciate His love. Proverbs 25:2 (KJV) says, “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”
Is it time for you to examine the character of God in a fresh way? If so, pray today that He would open your eyes to His wonderful mysteries.
Father, restore in me the wonder of who You are. It has been too long since I have found myself amazed by Your love. Amen.
