The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
2 Peter 3:9 NLT
Are you eager for the Lord to return? Every generation, since Jesus ascended into heaven after His crucifixion and resurrection, has looked forward to His second coming, wondering if it would happen soon. Through the ages many so-called prophets have set dates, sure they had it all figured out, even though Jesus said no one knows except the Father.
What might we do differently if we knew for sure this would be the month or week or day of His return? Would we tell everyone we know about the love of Jesus, His sacrificial death, and resurrection? Would we pray for people we love, that they understand the importance of the moment? God might just be waiting, giving that person ample time to repent and turn to Him.
What about cleaning up our own lives? The Lord knows exactly what we do and think each day. No use trying to fool Him.
Or would we just look up? Expectant. Waiting.
Some people think it’s never going to happen. But God promised, and He is never slow about fulfilling His promises. Our timetable may not match His, but we should have an urgency to share the good news about Jesus, because today could be that glorious day. Tomorrow might be too late.
Lord Jesus, I eagerly anticipate Your return, and I long for everyone I love to be ready. Touch their hearts to welcome You, right now. Amen.
