Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me. . . . Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction.
Psalm 103:1–4 KJV
Trials come to all of us, and when they do, it’s easy to forget all that God has done for us in the past. Often our adverse circumstances sabotage our efforts to praise God in every situation.
The psalmist practiced the power of praise as he acknowledged God’s faithfulness to forgive, heal, and restore. He blessed the Lord with his whole heart because he trusted in God’s divine plan.
Positive acclamations of our faith produce remarkable results. First, praise establishes and builds our faith. It decrees, “No matter what is happening, no matter how I feel, I choose to praise God!” Second, praise changes our perspective. As we relinquish control, praise redirects our focus toward God rather than on our problems. And third, praise blesses the heart of God. It brings God joy for His children to acknowledge His presence and power through praise.
The Bible admonishes us to praise God in every circumstance, saying, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV). To bless the Lord in all things is to receive God’s blessings. Begin the practice of praise today!
Heavenly Father, You are worthy of all my praise. I thank and praise You for my current circumstances, knowing that You are at work on my behalf. Amen.
