Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized.
Acts 9:18 NIV
Saul was the least likely candidate to become a Christ-follower. He was a Jew among Jews and a persecutor of Christians. All this changed when he met Jesus in a bright light on the road to Damascus! At that time, Saul was temporarily blinded. And then a disciple named Ananias was sent by God to lay hands on Saul and restore his vision.
Scripture says “something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes.” He was a new man. He was soon to receive a new name—Paul. Paul would become a faithful apostle of Christ, a great evangelist, and the writer of many books of the Bible! From Christian-murderer to Christian-maker, he was truly a new creation!
This story is a powerful one.
Ponder for a moment the “Saul” in your life. Who is the least likely candidate to become a Christian? Think about that coworker or friend who scoffs at you for being so “religious.” The world has its claws dug deeply into this individual. He or she is wearing spiritual blinders.
Pray for this person today. Ask God to remove the scales covering his or her eyes. He’s done it before and He can do it again. You serve a miracle-working God!
God, please open the eyes of ______. Draw ______ to yourself by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
