The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; it shall blossom
abundantly and rejoice, even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the excellency of our God.
Isaiah 35:1–2 NKJV
After the bleakness of winter, a small crocus blossoms and gives hope. We revel in its color and fragrance. We itch to wear sundresses, shorts, and sandals. There are times when our spiritual walk feels like a desert. There are few signs of life or progress, things are dry and brown, and it’s hard to stay hopeful. But as Isaiah points out, God is our restorer and rainfall on dry land. His glory makes our desert souls rejoice and blossom like the crocus.
The excitement you feel for the coming spring—have you ever felt that excited about your time with the Lord? Have you ever anticipated your daily devotion? Many times we treat scripture as a Band-Aid or medicine; we only read and pray when we feel the need to. The Word of the Lord is vastly more powerful and abundant than a quick fix. You will never know the extent of scripture if you only read the red letters or psalms. Scripture can make a desert heart blossom. Take time to analyze how and when you call upon the Lord. The majesty of our God is all around this spring.
Father, thank You for the blessing of spring! I pray these coming days reveal the areas of my heart that need Your tender care and tilling. Amen.
