“Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his throne as king to rule for the Lord your God.”
2 Chronicles 9:8 NIV
The queen of Sheba had heard about King Solomon’s great wisdom and fame. She came to see for herself, and was she ever impressed! The interesting point to notice from her visit is that she acknowledged God’s hand in what she witnessed.
The queen knew that Solomon could not have, in his own power, risen to such high levels of intellect, wealth, and wisdom. She gave credit where credit was due. She acknowledged the power of Solomon’s God, who did not bless Solomon with wisdom for Solomon’s own use and glory but for God’s greater purposes.
When Jesus came, He told His followers, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). He wanted them to be as transparent as Solomon was to the queen of Sheba when it came to recognizing and giving glory to the true Gift Giver.
When others notice your good works, attributes, or talents, do you let them see past you to the true source of your power and worth?
Heavenly Father, I want to shine for You today—and every day! May others see good in me so that they will praise You and give glory to You. Amen.
