Promise-Keeper

“You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it—as it is today.”
2 Chronicles 6:15 NIV

God keeps His promises. All of them.

God promised to allow David’s son Solomon to build the temple. And He did.

God promised never again to flood the earth as in Noah’s day. He put a rainbow in the sky to reflect that oath.

God has given you His Word that He will never leave you nor forsake you. And He won’t.

Are you a person of your word? Do you, as a child of the living God, follow His example?

Maybe you are true to big promises but find others less significant. The writer of Ecclesiastes advises you, “It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it” (5:5). Although it’s important to keep all your promises, this is especially so when it comes to kids. Not only are they more fragile than adults, but they will mimic your promise-breaking or promise-keeping behavior.

Thank God that He’s a promise-keeper. Then ask for the wisdom to make promises only if you know you will be able to keep them.

Father, help me be true to my promises. Show me that sometimes it’s wiser to say, “I’ll try,” or “I hope we can make that happen,” than “I promise,” so that I can stay as true to my word as You are to Yours. Amen.
