Fill Your Mind with Good

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.
Philippians 4:8–9 MSG

Do you categorize yourself as an optimist or a pessimist? Do you look on the bright side of things, or can you always find something negative in every situation?

If you are more of a Debbie Downer, don’t lose hope! Even if your mind goes directly to the negative, God can change you. He does this by transforming you and renewing your mind. Ask Him to daily fill your mind with good things: thinking the best about people and circumstances, not the worst. Seek the power of God to take every thought captive and then you’ll begin to see a change in you! Make a list of scriptures that will renew your mind. Start with these:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2 NIV).

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV).

If you are perpetually optimistic, then stay the course and pray for the people in your life who have a tendency to bring others down.

God, please fill my mind with good things. Renew my thoughts and make them obedient to Your will. Amen.
