How God Meets Needs

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 NKJV

Does God meet all your needs, or do you sometimes wonder if this verse is true? While our needs may be financial as they were for Paul and the Philippians, God’s “riches in glory” are not limited to food, clothing, and shelter. We also need security, love, endurance, worthwhile goals, satisfying accomplishments, etc. Would God’s promise extend to emotional cravings as well?

God knows that our deepest soul need is to know and love Him and to learn to be satisfied with Him. He has to be enough! To get us to that place, He may deprive us of things. He cares about our character more than our comfort. When we lack or long for things we consider vital, it can drive us to Him. A wife may pray for marriage harmony and start fighting more with her spouse. God centers on her need to deal with her selfish desire to dominate her husband. When she lets God prune out her faults, her husband will improve!

We may ask for healing, but our health worsens—weakness and disabilities highlight our need to depend on God. Personal failure can wean us from pride; sorrow and loss open us to God’s comfort and increase our intimacy with Him. In other words, what God knows we need may not be what we want! God wisely supplies our needs, not our greeds.

Loving Father, help me accept that what You provide, and what You deprive, will ultimately meet my soul’s deepest need. Amen.
