A Second Chance

[Abram] went on his journey. . .to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
Genesis 13:3–4 NKJV

Before he was named Abraham, Abram obeyed God by going to a land God said He would show him, uprooting his family and relying on God to show him the way. That took a tremendous amount of faith. But once in Canaan, he discovered a severe famine. So, instead of trusting in God to provide, Abram went down to Egypt, where, fearing for his life, he encouraged his wife Sarai to lie and, in the process, almost lost her to the pharaoh. Afterward, he was sent out of town and ended up back where he started, to the place where the Lord had initially directed him.

We, too, can sometimes find ourselves walking out of the Lord’s will only to suffer dire consequences. But thank God we have a Lord who is willing to give us a second chance, allowing us to come back, to call on Him once again.

Where have you wandered off to? Are you ready to go back to the beginning, to start again? To get back in God’s will and way and see what blessings await?

Lord, help me get off this side trip. I want to be where You called me from the beginning, to trust You during feast and famine. So I’m calling on Your name right now. Forgive me, Your daughter. And bless me once again. Amen.
