Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Ephesians 4:2 NLT
According to a 2014 survey conducted by Nielson and Everest College, 80 percent of Americans (that’s 8 out of 10) are stressed out by a least one thing at work. One of the reasons cited for the stress was annoying coworkers.
Do you clash with someone at work? There are a lot of possible reasons. It could be anything from a difference in basic temperament to opinions of neatness to a radically opposite approach in doing the inventory. We all have our own ideas and opinions, some of them good and plainly beneficial; others sounding ridiculous to the people who work with us. And sometimes the clashes result from sticking to one’s Christian testimony. How do we handle these awkward moments?
Gentleness. If it’s not a big deal, let it go. If you can give in to the other person’s way of doing it without having to be untruthful or go against policy, then do it.
Humility. We don’t always have to have the last word or prove our point to the letter.
Mercy. We can choose to get along, even if we don’t agree, and refuse to let the irritations become huge tension points.
Let’s not be holy snobs or know-it-alls, but rather let’s practice the traits of gentleness, humility, and mercy and make the workplace a better place to be.
Lord, give me grace to honor You in my relationships with my coworkers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
