So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV
Maybe you wonder why you are here. One way you can discover why is to take a look at your deepest desires. You were made to love; so you desire love. You were made for health; so you desire health. And you were made to achieve, so you desire to achieve.
But here is something important to remember: When the reason we want to achieve is to serve ourselves, then we’ll end up feeling very empty even if we achieve what we want. But when our desire to achieve points us toward Christ, when it points us toward our greatest purpose to love and glorify God (see Matthew 22:37), then we’ll experience joy.
Some people believe they will be fulfilled if only they could discover some solitary purpose, but lasting and deep fulfillment doesn’t come from just fulfilling a purpose or even using one’s greatest gifts and talents. Instead, it comes from using your gifts and talents and knowing whom you are using them for. It comes from serving God through what you do.
The artist who paints a picture simply to paint or just to make money will never experience the same joy as the artist who paints to glorify her Creator. Glorifying and loving God gives meaning and helps us to find a deeper joy to everything we do.
Lord, please help me to love You so much that everything I do flows from that love. Amen.
