The Wisdom We Need

Now the Angel of the Lord found her. . . . [and] said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand”. . . . Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees.
Genesis 16:7, 9, 13 NKJV

Hagar ran away from her circumstances: Sarai, an abusive mistress. Part of Hagar’s trouble had been caused by her own actions. For having become pregnant by Abram, she had begun disrespecting the childless Sarai.

We, too, sometimes think we can run from our troubles. But when we come to the end of ourselves, God is there, ready to give us the wisdom we need but may not want. He may ask us to go back, telling us how to “be” in our circumstances: submissive, obedient, loving. He had a vision for Hagar that she would be the mother of a son and have many descendants.

Even today, this God-Who-Sees sees you and your situation. He is ready to reveal Himself to you and share His wisdom. He may not remove you from your circumstances, but He will give you the word you need to get through them. Afterward, you’ll see your situation in a new light, with a new hope for your future, step by step.

Lord, You constantly reveal Yourself, manifest Yourself to me. In fact, You see me before I even come to You. So be with me now. Show me where You want me to submit. Remind me that You have a plan and vision for my life—and that it is all meant for my good. Amen.
