A Game Plan for Anxiety

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7 NIV

Do you find yourself being overly anxious at times? The enemy wants to fill you with fear and anxiety. His plan is to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10), and that includes destroying your peace and thankfulness. But God’s plan is that you have life and have it abundantly! So how can you shut of the anxiety and worry to make room for the abundant life God has for you right here and now? Our gracious God has given us a game plan for anxiety:

  • Whenever you find yourself worried or anxious, stop to pray.
  • Give thanks! Tell God your worries and ask Him so He can fill you with joy in His presence (see Psalm 16:11)
  • When you do those things, the very peace of God. . .which doesn’t make any sense to our human minds. . .will guard your heart and mind through Christ.

Through the ages, men and women of God have relied on this game plan to get them through unimaginable circumstances: Mothers losing a child to cancer have been given peace through the power of Christ. Soldiers held captive by the enemy have been filled with the presence of God. If you are struggling with an uncertain future, find rest and peace in Christ alone.

Thank You, God, for meeting me in each moment. Let my heart be set on You. Allow my heart and mind to be full of thankfulness for who You are and all that You’ve done in my life so I can be filled with your peace. Amen.
