Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
James 5:13 NIV
“Your face is giving you away.”
“I know what you’re thinking. I can see it in your expression.”
Too many times, people allow their feelings to show on their faces. If we’re mad, anger shows in the fiery darts coming from our eyes. Self-pity is portrayed by a turned-down mouth and an expression that says, “Poor me.” When we disagree with someone, we often frown, wrinkle our forehead, or roll our eyes as a sign of disgust. We can’t seem to keep from letting our thoughts show.
James teaches us how to respond to life’s experiences. He says if you’re in trouble, pray about it. We’re much better off when we pray about what’s bothering us, no matter what the problem, than to let it show for the world to see. Likewise, if we’re happy, we can let those around us know it by singing. There’s a gospel song that says, “I feel a little song coming on.” When we pray about our troubles, we feel better and can then sing that song we feel in our hearts. Are you facing a problem today? Take it to God in prayer and let Him take care of it for you. Are you happy? Then sing a little song.
Lord, help me to rely on You in times of trouble and sing Your praises when I’m happy. Let my expression shine for You. Amen.
