Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. . . . Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psalm 100:1–2, 4 KJV
Many people in our culture think of Sunday as a day to relax and watch football, go fishing, or fire up the grill and spend time with their family. A great number of people no longer think of Sunday as a day of worship. As of 2014, the Barna Group stated that “churchless people”—those who hadn’t attended a service anytime during the past six months—stood at 114 million.
Some people may find that statistic astounding, but how faithful are we to attend our local house of worship? Has Sunday become just another day? Do we consider it “our time” to unwind and rest from the stress and pressures of the week? Do we go only when it’s convenient or on a special occasion? Are we becoming a part of that alarming statistic?
Worship is a time of acknowledging God in our lives and showing Him we’re grateful for all His blessings, a time to make a joyful noise and sing praises to Him. It’s a matter of getting our priorities straight, deciding to give back to God a little of the time He’s given us. Keeping God first in our lives means setting aside time to worship Him.
Father, help me to serve You by spending time in worship. Amen.
