Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
Romans 1:21 NLT
In Romans 1, Paul is reminding us all that we are without excuse (see Romans 1:20). We have a supernaturally created world around us each day, a sun to warm and light our earth and a moon to light our nights. Only our Creator is to thank for those blessings.
But mankind, though they knew God, chose not to worship Him or give Him thanks. This resulted in dark and confused minds. This can be true of our world today. When we choose ourselves over God, life becomes confusing and dark.
If we believe the truth of God and His Word that we are made clean and new in the blood of Christ, then we are without excuse when it comes to thanking Him for all He is and all He has done. We either believe it and it means absolutely everything—changing our entire lives—or we are lukewarm in our faith and the Christian life is really just a supper club. There is great danger in the latter (see Revelation 3:16).
Will you give your thanks and worship to the true God?
God, I do not want to be lukewarm in my faith. I want to live for You and give all my thanks and worship to You alone. Please rid me of selfishness and fill me with Your Spirit. Amen.
