If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
James 1:5 NIV
The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective (see James 5:16). When we pray, we become a part of the solution and a part of the blessing. Prayer is a great mystery, but Jesus tells us to pray always. Our prayers are heard and somehow, in a powerful way, they make a difference.
As you pray today, ask God to help you make wise decisions. Be thankful for the key leaders in your life: your pastor, your mentors, your spouse and family members. Pray for your children and young relatives to grow up as strong leaders. Pray for your local and national leaders. Pray for wisdom as you help select those leaders who will make decisions for you. God will give you His wisdom if you ask for it.
God’s Word also tells us that we “do not have because [we] do not ask God” (James 4:2 NIV). You’ve probably heard that said this way: You have not because you ask not. If you are lacking wisdom, it may be because you’ve never really asked for it. You can change that today. Spend time with God asking Him to fill you with truth and wisdom.
God, I know this is an important day, so I ask for Your great wisdom as I make decisions concerning leadership in my life and family. Amen.
