You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Isaiah 26:3 NIV
For the woman who wants to experience the peace God promises, there are only two choices: trust or torment. So, we must ask ourselves, “Will I rely on God, choosing to believe He can be trusted with all I don’t understand and the concerns that consume my thoughts, or will I choose not to believe and trust Him?” The first choice brings rest and peace. The latter only brings torment.
Isaiah 30:15 (NLT) says, “In quietness and confidence is your strength.” The one who chooses belief and trust experiences a confidence and quietness of spirit. The one who chooses not to believe and not to trust her Lord experiences a lack of confidence, and chaos overtakes her spirit. “What will happen now?” “Oh no! Awful things are going to happen; I just know it!” In this there is torment.
Belief and trust are chosen because life will always give you many reasons not to trust. It seems that every difficult experience invites us to unbelief, to focus on all that is going wrong and to look to the future in fear. It’s not easy to make the choice to believe and trust because it’s willful. It’s deliberate. And sometimes it’s moment by moment.
Lord, please help me to choose trust each moment today so I can live in the abundance of Your peace. Amen.
