Step Out in Faith

The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.
Joshua 3:17 NIV

Everyone needs to know they have a purpose in life. God’s assignments to us give us purpose. But sometimes what God is asking us to do seems impossible. The Israelites felt that way. The Jordan was at flood stage. How could they cross it? They had to walk by faith and not by sight. We need to do the same thing.

There are three steps to walking by faith. One, follow God. The priests carrying the ark went into the Jordan first, and then the people were to follow. We can do this by being in God’s Word and seeking godly advice.

Two, wait. Israel stopped at the edge of the river for three days. They knew they couldn’t do this on their own. They spent the time consecrating themselves. When you are in a waiting period, is there sin you need to confess and remove? God will not work in all His fullness in the lives of people who are unwilling to open their hearts to Him.

Three, step out. The priests had to step into the raging river before God stopped the water. They had to show they believed Him.

Where do you need to step out in faith?

Lord God, open our eyes to see You working. Give us the courage to trust You and step out in faith. Amen.
