A Sound Mind

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

Turn on the evening news and be prepared to see tragedy and chaos. It seems most of the reports we receive are bad ones. Everywhere we turn, something horrific is happening to someone. Crime is rampant and affects all of us, either directly or indirectly. If we’re not careful, fear will paralyze us and take over our lives. So, we must not lose sight of God’s promises.

Timothy writes that this spirit of fear did not come from God. Instead, God has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. The mind is fertile ground for every evil thought the devil can bring to you. If we allow those thoughts to take root and grow, then fear will overtake us. We must allow God’s Spirit to rule our thinking process. We must accept the love He has shown to us and embrace the sound mind He has given us.

As we read God’s Word and spend time in prayer with Him, He plants within our minds those things we need to have a sound mind. A sound mind is one the devil can try to attack, but his efforts will be futile. We must be on guard every day to preserve the mind God has given us. Fertilize it with good ideas that glorify God and His purpose.

Father, I accept the power, love, and sound mind You have given me. Help me preserve it diligently. Amen.
