In God We Trust

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
1 Timothy 6:17 NLT

The value of the dollar goes up and down. Banks fail. Banks swell. The productivity of nations rises and falls. Surpluses cause hopes to multiply. Deficits cause longstanding depression.

The meaning of wealth changes all the time. You cannot trust it or build dreams on it. You cannot live fully on it.

Instead, put your trust in God. God does not shift in value, depending on the stock market, or the price of oil, or what battles are raging in faraway lands. No amount of human insecurity can touch God’s everlasting consistency. And God is not just our Creator, not just our Sustainer, not just our Redeemer—He is our Provider. And He is our Friend. He knows everything that we need, long before we need it. He knows everything that will please and delight us, even before we realize our need to be delighted. God is our loving, generous, gracious Father, ever ready to supply us with good gifts—even though we never did a thing to deserve them.

Why wouldn’t we trust Him?

Father God, help me not to put my trust in earthly riches that will fade. Help me remember that all I ever need is You. Amen.
