Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty! Wealth is a crown for the wise; the effort of fools yields only foolishness. A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is a traitor. Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children. Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.
Proverbs 14:23-27 NLT
In 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT), Paul tells Timothy about the importance of being a good worker, writing: “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”
When you work for the Lord, your focus is on honoring Him. As you bring honor to Him, you’re trusting Him and the truth of His Word. And, as explained in Proverbs above, as a truthful witness with reverence for Him, you’ll save lives, including your own.
As did the prophet Jeremiah, commit your ways (and work) to God. Like Jeremiah, although you might not feel qualified to do the work God has called you to, know that God is with you (see Jeremiah 1:4-10). Whatever you put your mind or hands to today, stay focused—on Him.
Father thank You for Bible characters, like Jeremiah, who knew what it was like to trust You with our work. Bless my efforts for You!
