“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”
Isaiah 40:8 NIV
There is nothing more powerful, more honest, more lasting, or more truthful than God’s Word. Nothing else in our world stays the same. Nothing else holds such honest, hopeful power. Grass withers in the summer heat, flowers die and fall to the ground at their season’s end. Even our precious children grow up, eventually leaving the nest to venture into the world without us.
The one thing that never changes—that’s consistently the same yesterday, today, and for all eternity—is the Word of our God. We have it printed between worn black leather covers, or inside a slick contemporary hardback, or even on our computer. Wherever we keep God’s Word—on fragile onion-skinned paper or in some hard-to-understand electronic world—we find life. We find the God-inspired guidance, understanding, and wisdom we need to raise our children well. God’s Word is more powerful than any storm life can bring, sharper than any double-edged sword, and brighter than all the stars in the heavens.
When we study God’s Word wholeheartedly, He will illuminate it, giving us an understanding that brings perfect peace. While everything around us changes, we can rest in the one thing that stands forever—the true, unchanging Word of God.
Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your Word. I pray that You would teach me more and more how to obtain its nourishment and wisdom for my spirit. I ask You to bless me with great understanding.
