“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
Luke 9:26 NKJV
Perhaps Norman Rockwell illustrated it best in one of his famous covers for The Saturday Evening Post. In this piece, a woman and child bow their heads over their meal while being observed by some callous-looking fellows. In the 1950s when this painting was debuted, the concept of “saying grace” was still a common practice. And while Rockwell highlights the fact that some will smirk, the obvious message of his depiction is that the naysayers are the ones who were to be pitied.
Do you ask a blessing over your food when you eat in a public place?
Be commited to making it known that you are thanking God for the food He has provided. Be a noticeable witness. Is it a sin not to pray before eating? Probably not. But it is certainly honoring God to do it and makes a statement that you acknowledge Someone higher than yourself. So today, be bold in your witness by thanking God for the food that comes from His hand.
Father God, thank You for taking care of me and giving me food to eat. Help me never to forget to publicly acknowledge Your goodness. Amen.
