If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 NIV
Have you ever had a stain on a blouse that wouldn’t come out? Maybe you massaged detergent into it and then washed it over and over again, all in hopes that you could make the errant spot go away. In the end, you tossed the blouse in the trash, unable to wear it because it made you look (or feel) less than perfect. Sin is the same way. It leaves a spot—an indelible mark—on us. We can’t hide it or scrub it away. And we can’t disguise it with a lovely scarf. It marks us for life. Until Jesus. When we encounter Jesus, when we take Him at His Word and ask for His forgiveness, He performs in an instant what we could not perform in years of trying. The sin—all that ugliness of the past—is gone. Poof. We have no guilt and no condemnation. No doubt. When we make Him Lord of our lives, we get the best “laundering” job of our lives. What a joy, to be spot free!
Father, I’m so grateful that I don’t have to feel guilty or condemned. Thank You for removing not only my sin but the lingering guilt as well. I’m so grateful, Lord. Amen.
