“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7–8 NIV
Have you ever been asked to place your trust in the hands of a surgeon? That moment, just before the anesthesia kicks in, is one of complete surrender. What else can you do but trust that the doctor has things fully in hand and will perform his finest work as he operates on you? You drift off to sleep, anxieties lifted, cares behind you. He does his best work when you’re completely submitted to the process. The same is true when it comes to trusting God. We have to relax. Submit. Lay ourselves at his feet, trusting that He will do His very best work. We can’t look to ourselves or others for answers. They come from Him alone.
So many times I’ve put my trust in others, Lord, only to be let down. How grateful I am to know that You will remain faithful, no matter what. I can trust You, Father. . .and I choose to do so, no matter how difficult life’s circumstances might get. Amen.
