By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3 NLT
Have you ever tried to hang a picture without a hammer? Or make a dress without a sewing machine? Or bake a pie without an oven? Trying to do a job without the right tools can be difficult, inefficient, and even impossible. Furthermore, having the right tools for the job can mean the difference between frustration and success.
As we journey through the Christian life, we may occasionally feel frustration. We may feel like we lack the patience to deal with a difficult spouse, or the forgiveness to let go of anger toward someone who has hurt us. We may become tired and discouraged, lacking the energy to continue the Lord’s work. But the Bible promises us that God has already given us everything we need. From time to time the tools we need may not seem readily available, but we can hold tight to the truth that His divine power has made them available to us. The more we come to know Him, the more we realize our calling. Then, we can be assured that He will equip us with everything we need to do His work.
Father, thank You for Your divine power and for giving me everything I need to live the Christian life. When I feel discouraged, remind me to seek to know You more so that I can experience Your great and perfect promises. Amen.
