Good Morning

Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I trust in You; teach me the way in which I should walk; for to You I lift up my soul.
Psalm 143:8 NASB

Mornings can excite or depress us. Do you say “Good morning, Lord!” or “Good Lord, it’s morning!”? When David wrote Psalm 143, he probably dreaded the sun coming up because that meant his enemies could continue pursuing him and persecuting his soul. “The enemy. . .has crushed my life to the ground” (verse 3 NASB). “My spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart is appalled” (verse 4 NASB).

What did David do when he didn’t know which way to turn? He turned to the Lord by staying in prayer contact with God and meditating on God’s faithfulness and righteousness (verse 1), God’s past work in his life (verse 5), and His loyal love (verses 8, 12). He also took refuge in God (verse 9) and continued serving Him (verse 12).

No matter what our day holds, we can face it confidently by practicing verse 8. So, let’s look for God’s loving-kindness and keep trusting Him no matter what. Ask Him to teach and lead us in the way He wants us to go. We have the privilege of offering up our souls (thoughts, emotions, and will) to Him anew each morning. Have a good day.

Good morning, Lord. You are my loving Father, secure Refuge, and trustworthy God. Deliver me from my enemies while showing me Your loving heart as I trust in You. Furthermore, help me to please You today in my decisions and goals, in my attitudes toward circumstances, and in the way I respond to people around me.
