“When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

No one likes to be lied to. And after awhile, a liar is not believed. We’ve all heard the story of the little boy who cried “wolf” one too many times.
But there is one liar to whom we listen over and over. Yeah, you guessed it! Satan, the father of lies.
Why do we perk up our ears when he comes slithering around? Has he ever had anything good to say, anything that was totally truthful or helped us in our walk with Christ? Do we think he has changed in the last thousand years? Is he now trustworthy?
Not on your life. Jesus dealt with his treachery by quoting the Word of God and telling Him to “heel.” He could do that because, as the Son of God, He has authority over all things and everyone. We do not have that type of sovereignty, but we do have power in the name of Jesus and in His shed blood. James 4:7 (NKJV) admonishes us to “resist the devil and he will flee from you.” He has no lie or ploy that can stand against Christ’s authority over him. When we are being attacked, we can be confident that “greater is he that is in [us], than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4 KJV).
Lord Jesus, You are the Victor over Satan. I resist him through the authority of Your name. Thank You for being my Savior and Lord. Amen.
