Take Every Thought Captive

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 NIV

How do we let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts? One way is to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (see 2 Corinthians 10:5). That means when an unkind or impure thought comes into our minds, we take it straight to the cross of Christ.

Instead of obsessing over conversations and what other people might be thinking of you, you focus on Jesus. Sometimes just saying the name of Jesus out loud when you have a negative thought can stop the thought in its tracks and refocus your mind.

After allowing Jesus into your thought process, thank God for your blessings. Thank Him for His great love for you and others. Ask Him to give you something else to think about instead of going back to that original thought.

If you’re having a convicting thought, take that to God as well. Ask Him to reveal what is true and right and also ask what your response should be.

Surrendering our thoughts to Christ naturally leads to surrendering our actions to Him, too. When our hearts and minds are surrendered to Christ, the peace of Christ is free to rule in our lives.

Thank You, God, for meeting me in each moment. Let my heart be set on You. Allow my heart and mind to be full of thankfulness for who You are and all that You’ve done in my life. Amen.
