Motivated by Generosity

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Acts 20:35 NIV

Society teaches us that getting is key. Consequently, we work hard to acquire clothing, homes, vehicles, and so on. Our lists are endless and grow even more as we watch what others have: vacations, RVs, jewelry. But no matter how much we get, there’s always more to want. We’re like kids at Christmastime, making our lists and then hoping Santa meets our expectations. The problem with that mentality is it’s one-sided. If we would flip-flop our thinking and focus on what we can give, then our entire focus will shift. A giving-minded woman has her antennae up. She’s aware of the needs around her. And thus, she is motivated by generosity. So ask God to balance your “need to have” with a need to give. You might just be surprised at how He does that.

I love the idea of blessing others, Lord. Oh, how fun to surprise them with little gifts when they least expect them. Point me toward those who need a blessing today, so that I can make an impact. Amen.
