So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
Hebrews 4:9–11 NLT
Whew! We’re very busy “doing,” aren’t we? Whenever we run short of things to do, we think up more things. Oftentimes women don’t feel useful unless they’re on the move 24-7. (That’s how many modern women are wired, after all.) Maybe it’s time to stop and ask the Lord, “What do You want, Father? Would You rather I ‘do’ or ‘be’?” Likely, His answer would come in the form of two simple words: just be. The problem is, it’s hard to “just be.” We’re wired by society to accomplish. We strive, we rush, and we press. We are driven! As with all things, balance is key. Make a commitment today to spend some time “being.” It will give you the energy you need to get out there and make a difference for the kingdom of God.
Oh, Father! I’m such a doer. Sometimes I forget to just “be.” Thank You for reminding me that I don’t need to impress You with my actions. You love me, just as I am. Show me how to “be” so that I’ll be ready to “do” when the right moments come. Amen.
