For you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?
1 Corinthians 3:3 NLT
Jealousy. The green-eyed monster. The great friend robber. The undeniable tool of the enemy, meant to bring division, dissatisfaction and other negative feelings. Why do women struggle so much with jealousy? Why do they long to have what others have?
Whether it’s looks, figure, money, husband, job, or position in ministry, each woman is entitled to what God gives her. It’s hers and hers alone. God elevates and provides in His time and His way. It’s not for us to decide or even comment on (though it’s hard to keep our mouths shut when we’re convinced God got it wrong). There’s never a time when jealousy is okay. Never. No finger-pointing. No, “Why do good things always happen to her and not to me?” No, “I don’t get it, Lord. Why did You make her so pretty and me so ugly?” Nope. None of that. Each to his—er, her—own. Now, while it’s on your mind, speak to that green-eyed monster and watch him disappear!
Oh, how I need help with this one, Lord! I try so hard not to let the green-eyed monster creep up on me, but sometimes I don’t win that battle. My envy can only be overcome with Your help. I give my insecurities and jealousies to You, Father, so that You can cleanse my heart and make me new. Amen.
