As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never
be disgraced.” Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”
1 Peter 2:6-7 NLT
The above verses, written by the apostle Peter, incorporate Old Testament Scripture found in Isaiah 28:16 and Psalm 118:22. Peter was saying that although Jesus, the cornerstone, was rejected by people, He was chosen by God for great honor.
Although Peter, whose name means “rock,” denied knowing Jesus before He was crucified, God still forgave him. In fact, God used Peter, who had once stumbled over the Cornerstone, to help spread the Gospel and encourage other believers.
Like Peter who fell short, stumbled, and showed his imperfections, you too may need a fresh start.
Know that with Jesus as the cornerstone in your life, even when you trip up, you’ll meet up with God’s grace and mercy. So thank Him, praise Him, and trust Him to catch you when you fall. Know you can stand tall on the cornerstone in your life and that, when you trust in Him, you will “never be disgraced.”
Father, give me the eyes to see Your grace and mercy at work in my life, especially in the areas where I make mistakes and fall short of Your glory.
