“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.”
Job 37:5 NIV
Have you ever reflected deeply on the power that God is? Not that He has, but that He is.
The ailing woman who simply touched Jesus’ garment was healed. That’s power. Lazarus walked out of the tomb alive. That’s power. Jesus could walk on water and calm a storm with His words. That’s power. Only a God who is power could do such things.
Job’s friend Elihu made some false assumptions about his suffering companion, but he certainly understood God’s power. Elihu described God as telling lightning where to strike (Job 36:32), and generating thunder with His own voice (Job 37:2–4). That’s power—full-blown, mind-boggling, earthshaking power.
Now, consider this: The One who controls nature also holds every one of our tears in His hand. He is our Father, and He works on our behalf. He is more than enough to meet our needs; He does things far beyond what our human minds can understand.
This One who is power loves you. He looks at you and says, “I delight in you, My daughter.” Wow! His ways are marvelous and beyond understanding.
Lord God, You are power. You hold all things in Your hand and You chose to love me. You see my actions, hear my thoughts, watch my heartbreak. . .and You still love me. Please help me trust in Your power, never my own..
