“For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.”
Job 12:10 NLT
What about biopsies? Have you had one? If not, chances are good that you will before your life is over. There seems to be a point in all our lives when the doctors can’t diagnose from the outside but have to extract a little piece of the inside of us to look at. This gives them more accurate information about whatever is growing or not growing inside of us. And that’s a good thing. If something inside has gone rogue, we surely want the medical team to find out.
But still it’s a difficult thing to endure the procedure and then wait for the results. In the interim, all sorts of fears play out in the mind. But why should a Christian be frightened about medical tests? Aren’t we supposed to want to go to heaven? Why shouldn’t we be happy about whatever report the doctor brings back?
The answer is that God implants the desire to live deep within us and He doesn’t take that out when we receive Him as Savior. A biopsy reminds us that there may not be a tomorrow for us to enjoy with friends and family. But biopsies also remind us that God is in control and can see every detail of our bodies from the inside out. Whatever the doctor finds will be news that has already passed heaven’s copy room.
Heavenly Father, when I have my next biopsy, please renew my faith in Your promise and help me to trust Your knowledge. In Jesus’ name, amen.
