Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 107:1 NIV
Our pastor often reminds us that God is a good Dad. He is the only perfect parent. Whenever you’re tempted to believe the lie that God is just a grumpy old man keeping track of rights and wrongs from heaven, remind yourself that He is good. He loves you with an everlasting love. His Word tells us that it is His kindness that leads us to repentance (see Romans 2:4), not shame and false guilt over our past mistakes.
Did you grow up with loving parents? Or do you consider yourself a loving parent? If you’ve experienced what it’s like to feel secure in that kind of love and give that kind of love, then think how much more the Author and Creator of that love cares for you!
In Luke 11:13 (NIV), Jesus says, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
God is a good Dad who gives us His Spirit to live in us and teach us in each moment. And so, we are never alone. We have a constant, perfect, loving parent and friend with us at all times and in every situation. What an amazing gift to be thankful for this month and always!
God, You are a good and loving Dad. The love I feel for my children and others doesn’t even come close to the love and graciousness You have for me. Thank You! Amen.
