Halloween

He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.
2 Timothy 1:10 NLT

Some people don’t want to have anything to do with this holiday. Though one can hardly avoid the decorations and the giant candy bags and the costumed characters roaming the streets, some people try as hard as they can to pretend this holiday is just another day. Why? They feel the day is dedicated to darkness, and is wrapped up in Satan’s evil schemes to steal away our souls, and they want no part of that.

On the other hand, what better day could there be to celebrate the Light of the world?

Christians should participate in Halloween, if only to bring light into the darkness. On this day where death and horror are used for decorating, we can share our lives with others. We can open our homes. We can give treats. And we can offer hope.

We can tell others the story of the Lord who came back from the dead and now lights the way to eternal life. We can tell about the King who has defeated death forevermore. And we can talk about the Almighty God who was beaten and wounded for our darkness so that we may live in His light.

Light of the world, help me to shine for You. Help me to lead others through darkness and into Your light. Amen.
