Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5–6 NIV
Ah, goals. We have a love-hate relationship with them, don’t we? They seem so doable. . .at first. In fact, we often get off on good footing, mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared. Then reality kicks in. Did you ever stop to think about why we so often don’t meet our goals? Sometimes it comes down to momentum. We fly out of the gate, a hundred miles an hour. Nothing can defeat us. Then exhaustion hits. Maybe the goals were unrealistic. Maybe we used up too much energy with our first leg. Or maybe, just maybe, we didn’t write our goals down. Did you know that writing down your goals (and giving them end dates) makes them more tangible? There’s something about the process of writing things down that makes you take them more seriously. So grab that pen and paper, friend. Scribble down those doable goals and then watch them come to pass. And while you’re at it, include your heavenly Father. God loves it when we set goals, and He’s even more excited when we include Him in the process of reaching them. What we can’t do on our own He can do through us!
Lord, thank You for making me a goal setter. I enjoy being motivated. I want to accomplish great things this year and can’t wait to see my goals met. You’re a good Father, and I love You! Amen.
