Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!
Psalm 42:5–6 NLT
When we allow the worries of this world to consume us, it’s easy to fall into sadness and depression. Psalm 13:3 (NLT) is a very honest prayer: “Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.” Do you feel like the sparkle has left your eyes? Can others see the light of Christ in you, or are you known for being weighed down with sadness?
A life of faith isn’t one where you walk around with a smile pasted on your face telling everyone that Jesus loves them even if you’re not sure that’s really true. A life of faith is marked by an authentic, loving relationship with God. You tell Him your burdens and He carries them for you. You’re weighed down by sadness and stress and God gives you rest. You take your suffering and depression to God and He gives you a new heart!
What God wants from you is this: instead of telling every person but God your troubles, go to Him first. He will lovingly restore you and meet your every need. He will bring resources to you and show you the way! If you let go of trying to manipulate your circumstances and allow God to come to your rescue, He will!
God, forgive me for going to everyone but You for help. I give You my needs and desires. Please fill my heart with hope. Amen.
