Rest and Believe

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 NLT

David, the writer of this psalm, did not find his hope in things that came from this earth—things he could see with his own eyes or create with his own hands. He did not find it through a solution his mind could conjure. He had faith in the Lord, and that was enough. We can only imagine how comforting it would be to look upon our defending army during a time of war, but he chose to look beyond the army and instead fixed his eyes on the Lord.

Through any trial or pain, the Lord sees all, and He loves his people in a deep, unfailing way. Although a thousand may fall, our fate and lives rest in Him and Him alone. We cannot look to earthly things to predict our future, finances, employment, etc. God’s plans far exceed anything we could plan, and if we trust and follow Him, we will end up in a place we never would have come to on our own.

So, breathe in. Breathe out. Rest and believe. It is through fixing our eyes on God and looking to Him for direction that we are reassured and can experience peace.

Lord, please set my eyes on You. Help me not to seek reassurance through earthly things but to understand on a deeper level that You control all. You hold my heart and care about each step I take. Because of this, I know that I can put my hope in You alone.
