The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.
Nahum 1:7 NIV
The Lord is indeed good and slow to anger, and He is your refuge.
But when you read on about the city of Nineveh in the book of Nahum, you will see that the Lord’s patience doesn’t last forever when people are bent on living a wicked life. Many parallels to today’s world can be seen in these warnings to Nineveh. The sins once considered wrong in society just a few decades ago are now considered acceptable behavior, perhaps even celebrated. Good is now called evil, and evil good.
So how can you live to please the Almighty when all the fallen earth seems once again determined to disobey God’s laws? Pray with a humble heart. Listen to the Lord and His still, small voice. Read His Word. Stay in fellowship with Christians who believe the Bible is truly the holy Word of God, not just a book of general guidelines. Come before God with a willingness to say, “I’ve wronged you, Lord. I’m sorry.” And mean it.
The good news is that when you do repent, the Lord is gracious to forgive and put you back in intimate fellowship with Him. Repentance isn’t a burden. It will lighten your load and bring joy to your soul!
Jesus, give me a meek heart. Show me my sins, then give me the courage to confess them and receive the peace of Your forgiveness. Amen.
